The Smallplate Today screen: a ring and a big number showing grams of protein left today, with a Find a small meal button

How it works

  1. Set your number

Enter your weight. Smallplate works out a daily protein target from a published advisory, shows the sum, and lets you change it.

  2. Say what you can face

Filter small meals by nausea-friendly, no cooking, sweet or savoury, under 5 minutes, or drinkable.

  3. Tap to log

Tap a meal or food, check the amount, and add it. The ring shows what is left, with no calorie budget and no scolding.

Questions

Is this medical advice?

No. Smallplate is for general information and tracking. Check your protein target with your doctor, especially if you have kidney disease.

How is my protein target worked out?

By default it is 1.2 g of protein per kg of body weight a day, the low end of the higher targets a published advisory mentions for people losing weight. You can change it to anything. The sources page has the quotes and links.

Do I need an account?

No. Your entries are saved only in your browser on your phone. Nothing is sent to a server. You can export or delete everything in Settings.

Does it count calories?

No budget and no red numbers. Protein is the one number that matters here. Meals show their calories for information, so you can see they are small.

Does it work on my iPhone?

Yes. Open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. After your first visit it also opens offline.

Does it work with my medication?

Smallplate does not connect to, track or give advice about any medication. It helps you track protein and find small meals, whatever your day looks like.

What happens after the free trial?

The trial runs 7 days from the day you first open the app, and the app tells you the end date. No card is asked for, so nothing is charged automatically. After that, Today, Meals and Week lock until you subscribe: $29 a year (about $2.42 a month) or $7.99 a month, cancel anytime. Payments are not open yet. Your entries stay on your phone and you can export them any time.

What is the difference between meals and foods?

Meals are the 101 small meals and snacks in the Meals tab, each with at least 15 g of protein. Foods are the 65 everyday foods you search on Today to log an amount, such as eggs or Greek yogurt.
